Farewell to Friesland

This is our farewell to a wonderful part of the Netherlands that many visitors to the ignore.

The people are so very friendly to Canadians. During the four separate visits we have enjoyed taking part in their rituals of cheering on their favourite skutsjesilen teams, cheered hot air ballooners at Joure, cruised the many canals through the farmlands and sat along those same canals waving at the boats and ships as they went by.

We've ate more than our share of locally produced Gouda cheeses and sausages and we've devoured loaves of delicious bread often still warm from the ovens. And, we will never, ever forget the appelkak!

We lived here, walked to store every day to purchase items for supper, got to know our neighbours, bicycled through the countryside and more. It changed the way we think about things in life.

We will never forget the lush green fields, beautiful flowers, the grazing livestock next to the patchwork of waterways.

Goodbye Friesland, we will always cherish the many memories we made here.
