Impressions - Week 3

We bid farewell to Friesland on Monday, travelling through the German countryside to the city of Berlin. The landscape changed from Friesland's very flat pastures filled with dairy cattle, corn and hay fields, and water canals to Germany's rolling hills filled with ripening grain crops. The Dutch farm every last inch of available land. Germany's farming techniques seem to be more like those of Western Canadian farmers. Dutch homes are typically made of red brick, with tile or thatched roofs and large windows painted with black or white trim. German homes are more often colored stucco with smaller windows. I suspect the window size has something to do with the amount of sunny days the regions experience.

Germans are typically shorter than their Dutch neighbours, and Ron says the men's urinals are built just right. Delmer is happy because he has a clear view of what lies ahead of him everywhere we go. I have lost my sense of direction in Berlin, which is creating some lively debates about which way we should be heading.
